We're off to San Francisco on Thursday for a whirlwind trip. Our visas are ready at the French Consulate in SF. (Most countries, including the US, make you pick up the visa where you applied for it, since you're not supposed to come to the new country until you have a visa.)
We *were* going to go get them at the end of June, because Jim and I have a busy month of UI work, and that's just after our final deliverable. But once the HR guys at our company discovered this, those plans were scrapped. For a number of reasons, they need Dennis to have his visa before the end of the first week of June, so off we go.
So, we'll fly 22 hours, There on Thurs, home on Monday. But don't think it's all fun and games. Here's our schedule so far:
Friday 09:00 to 12:00 -- French Consulate
Friday 13:30 to 15:00 -- Dentist's office for cleaning
(Hopefully my stylist and my waxer will let me make appointments this weekend, but I haven't reached them yet.)
Sat/Sun - try to buy and eat all of the things we miss. My list includes eating at Tommy's Mexican and Ebisu, and buying truffled caviar from the farmer's market. For bringing home with us, we need Cholula and Chipotle Tabasco, to start.
Monday is our *just in case* day for the Consulate, which is only open from 9-noon. I've had enough experience with French bureaucracy now to doubt that we'll be able to pick up our visas in one day, so we left ourselves a buffer day just in case. We leave Monday at 4pm, and arrive in Paris on Tuesday, back to work on Wed (with a bad case of jetlag, no doubt).
Anyway, hopefully we'll see some of our pals while we're there. It's frustrating to get just a few days for all of that flying, but it will be nice to have our official papers.
