Last night we went to a seafood restaurant for dinner. We had seen this place a few nights ago when we went for the fois gras. There are men outside of the restaurant shucking oysters and clams and opening up crabs.

We ordered a platter of seafood on ice called "Le Géant Plateau" to share between us. It had, roughly, 11 oysters, 6 clams, 6 mussels, a whole giant crab with a round shell, two smaller crabs like rock crabs, dozens of tiny shrimps and snails, and about a dozen larger snails (probably my favorite). It looked like one level of this (yes, we saw these double decker ones there too, and were appropriately astounded):

It was served with an array of utensils. Cracking devices, long picks, and fat round forks. There was also a tiny pick not much larger than a pin -- we discovered that this is perfect for getting the little snails out of their shells. There was no garlic butter, no fancy preparation, just raw and steamed seafood, served cold. What an amazing feast. The best part was that it was only 80€ total, including a bottle of wine. I do wonder how the french diners didn't seem to be getting dirty the way we were.

Today hopefully we'll take a long walk and see the sights.
